Since 1 January 2022, Regulation (EU) 2018/848 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 30 May 2018 is the applicable legislative act, also known as the basic act, laying down the rules on organic production and labelling of organic products, repealing and replacing Council Regulation (EC) No 834/2007 of 28 June 2007. The new regulation provides for transitional periods for the implementation of certain new provisions, in particular on trade. Please refer to section 2 of Chapter IX of Regulation (EU) 2018/848, where provisions under previous Council Regulation (EC) No 834/2007 and Commission Regulation (EC) No 889/2008 may apply for a limited period.
It is on the basis of Regulation (EU) 2018/848 that the Commission adopts further detailed secondary legal acts.
